great week! Junebug & stuff

This week has been a pretty good week! My husband was home for 3 days and I was able to use the car to go to the gym almost every day this week! I've gotten in some pretty nice work-outs.

I was also able to spend some time relaxing and getting some sun at the pool this week while my husband watched Junebug. When I take Junebug to the pool with me I don't get a lot of relaxing done and don't get much sun either because I try to keep her on the shady end of the pool as much as possible.

Although I've been working-out a lot the scale has gone UP instead of down!! I'm going to have the knuckle down and totally cut out ALL junk food for a while. I'm the type that if I allow myself a little bit of junk I just go crazy and can't limit myself. If I cut it all out it's easier because I won't allow myself to touch any of it... where as if I allow myself "just a little" I quickly spiral out of control. That means my daily trips to Starbucks are going to have to STOP completely! Ugh. My goal weight is about 140 (I think) so I have about 20 lbs to lose!!

Junebug will be 6 months old in a couple weeks. She's almost sitting up alone now. In fact if I set her down on a soft surface (the couch or bed) she can already sit up alone for a little while. But on the floor the she just topples over. When she's lying on her back she manages to scoot around in a small area. I have to watch her more closely now when I lie her on our bed or on her playmat. Yesterday she scooted around on my bed and I found her face under a blanket! (she was only like that for a split second - she started fussing and I went to see what was wrong.) And she's been scooting all around on her playmat - we'll lay her down and a while later she'll be lying in the opposite direction or even off her playmat. I know things are going to get crazy once she really starts moving around. I'm sure she'll be into everything soon!! I'm trying to give her more tummy time so maybe she'll learn to crawl soon. Up until now I've been pretty bad about tummy time. She always fusses when I put her on her tummy so I've never made her stay on her tummy for very long or very often. I want Junebug to start eating real food - with a spoon - when she turns six months. We've already tried giving her rice cereal and rice cereal with bananas but she hasn't quite caught on to the concept of a spoon. We're going to buy her a highchair at Ikea this weekend. It's hard to believe my little baby is already almost 6 months old!! Before we know her 1st birthday will be here!!

Even though it's only mid-summer I'm already looking ahead to December when our lease will be up on this itsy-bitsy apartment. I am sooo anxious to get a bigger place! We're hoping we can get a rent house but we both have some debt and we know there's a slight possibility we'll have to stay in this apartment complex another year. Ugh. If we have to stay here we will get a larger apartment though and even that sounds pretty good compared to where we are now. The only downside (for me) of a larger place is that Junebug will be sleeping in her own room. I can't even imagine putting her in another room at night right now!! I think I'm going to have some real anxiety about that when the time comes. I am excited to decorate her bedroom though! I'm already trying to come up with some cute ideas. I'm sure there will be lots of pink. I don't want to do a theme but I want all her decorations to tie in together. I'm determined to paint our next place as soon as we move in so we'll be able to enjoy pretty painted walls for at least a year. I'm getting ideas on the colors I want to use... I'm sure I'll be posting a lot about all that in the months to come.

Entomatadas

My sweet husband - who loves to cook! -
just made me this DELICIOUS meal for dinner!!

I went shopping yesterday and got these 4 picture
frames and the green box below. The frame on the
left came from Marshall's, the 3 on the right from
Salvation Army and the box below from Crate &
Barrel outlet. All of it for a grand total of about
$15 which I think is a nice bargain.

When I brought home the frames my husband about
died that I had brought home MORE frames. He said
he'll never give me any more spending money because
all I've been buying are pictures frames and more
picture frames. For some reason it struck me really
funny when he said that and I went to the living
room and counted TWENTY THREE frames that we
already had in the living room alone.
I guess that is A LOT.

This is the wall behind our couch which is still a
work in progress. I didn't really want the shelves
lined up quite like that but my husband has to
always hang things on a stud in the wall and that
was as close to what I wanted as he could get. So,
I'm trying to work with what I got. I still haven't
found an arrangement that I really like with the
frames. Any ideas are welcome. :)

And here is a stack of frames that really need to
be packed away until we move into a bigger place.
Several in that stack our for Junebug's future
bedroom and the others we just really don't have
a place for in our little apartment.

losing weight, Starbucks & stuff

Well, I joined the gym last week. So far I've worked out about 4 or 5 times. My goal is to work-out three to four times a week. I also have a (pretty difficult) tummy toner DVD that I've been doing at home. I've only done the DVD exercises about 4 times but can already tell a difference. My tummy was my big problem area before I got pregnant... you wouldn't even want to know how big of a problem it is now.

Starbucks is another BIG problem for me. It really does brighten my day, every day. I just can't help it... really. If I have a migraine - Starbucks is the solution. If I'm feeling tired - Starbucks. If I'm happy - Starbucks! If I've had a loooong boring day stuck at home - Starbucks cheers me up. If I'm hot and sluggish - I *need* Starbucks. You get the picture. I always need a Mocha Frappuccino. I've been known to have 2 a day occasionally. Even looking up the calories online hasn't cured me from my habit.

I've pretty much figured out that I won't ever give up my Starbucks habit. If I work-out and skip a few days here and there that'll be good enough, right?

So that's where I'm at on exercise and dieting. My scale at home says I weigh 155 lbs. The scale at one of those health stores at the mall said I weigh 161. Either way I have A LOT to lose. I'm pretty sure my ideal weight is between 135 and 140. I took some *before* pictures that I'm not sure I'm brave enough to share online.

On another subject. I heard the BEST news yesterday from one my blogging buddies who is
also a friend IRL! I'm just waiting for her to update her blog with her great news!! :)

our 1st Anniversary

Our first anniversary was last week. Friday
night we left Junebug with my mom for
her first time away from us over night.
She did really well but I missed her
sooo much!

My husband and I thought about staying at a nice
hotel Friday night but decided to save some money
and just stay at home. We slept in really late on
Saturday morning. Then went to La
Madeleine's for lunch. And relaxed at Starbucks
for awhile afterwards.

Then because we're nerds we decided to go
to the museum in Dallas. That was okay-ish.
A little bit interesting and a little boring.

From there we went to North Park Mall,
another trip to Starbucks and we watched
The Proposal. That's a very funny movie!!

There are some of the oddest looking plants,
like the cactus above, all over North
Park Mall.

We went to dinner at Maggiano's -
a yummy Italian restuarant outside the mall.
We had ceasar salad and fettucine alfredo
for dinner and cheesecake and some
chocolate-y goodness for dessert.
Even though we didn't do anything all
that exciting or spend much money, we
did have a fun and relaxing day.

bibs

Junebug has a whole bunch of bibs that are just not that cute and really don't go with any of her outfits. We got a huge stack of bibs handed down to us before Junebug was born... they are so not cute that I almost donated them to Goodwill but at the last minute decided to hang on to them since they could come in handy. Well, it turns out that Junebug is a major drooler and goes through 2-3 bibs a day, some days. So every bib we have really does come in handy, cute or not. I've never really learned to sew very well but I'd like to learn to sew some simple, cute bibs that will actually match some of Junebugs little outfits. Here are some adorable bibs that I found on Etsy. These are just too cute.

weird tulip

I bought myself a dozen tulips a few
weeks ago because tulips are my favorite
flowers. I thought this flower was interesting -
as you can see a flower petal and a leaf from
the stem grew together rather oddly.
